Cayman Cycling National Team athlete Nathaniel Forbes, alongside team manager Liam Munn, embarked on an exciting journey to represent the Cayman Islands at the 2024 Pan American Cycling Championships held in São José dos Campos, Brazil. The team was also joined by Cayman Cycling President, Daniel Cummings, who represented the country at the Annual Congress of COPACI, the regional governing body for cycling.
On May 24th, Nathaniel competed in the U23 Road Race event, a challenging 160km course on the outskirts of the city. He displayed remarkable skill and determination, matching pace with some of the best cyclists in the region. However, approximately 80 miles into the race, cramps during a significant climb forced him to lose touch with the main group, ultimately leading to his withdrawal from the competition.
Despite this setback, Nathaniel’s performance exemplified incredible character and resilience. The Cayman Cycling community expressed immense pride in his efforts and remains confident that he will continue to develop as a talented representative for Cayman Cycling both regionally and beyond. Special thanks were extended to team managers Daniel Cummings and Liam Munn for their unwavering support throughout this memorable trip.
